  History
The Figurative Art League was officially formed in 1978 by members of a life drawing class
taught by Fred Berger at the Evanston Art Center. When first established the League was
located in an Evanston store front. In 1980 the League became a not-for-profit corporation
and moved to the Noyes Cultural Art Center in Evanston where it continues to run workshops
  to this day.

The FAL was established on the premise that drawing and painting from
live models is fundamental to Figurative Art. It gives artists who work in its
studio the opportunity to develop their individual techniques and
individual styles. Most artists who work there have previously had art
training either in college or in art school. They come to the FAL rather
then have the expense of hiring models privately. Also, working with other
artists with similar goals reinforces their commitment to produce Figurative
  Art.

  FAL Offers:
Quick and long pose workshops are held in room 215 four days and two
evenings a week. The League uses both nude and clothed models. There
is no instruction in the workshops that are run by a monitor who sets up
the poses. At times specialized class are offered by a guest instructor.

Artist members of the FAL are able to attend workshops and can
participate in juried FAL exhibitions in the 2nd Floor Gallery at the
Noyes Center, and in unjuried exhibitions in the FAL studio. Member
are given a yearly membership card that entitles them to discounts at
Goods Art Supply and Dick Blick Art Stores

As a result of a generous bequest by a former FAL member, the
Figurative Art League has established the Margaret Klimek Philips
Scholarship Fund for artists who are 25 years of age and older. Also,
other scholarships are available for Evanston seniors and Evanston underserved
  residents.
